Part A: In order Divide. Think of the matching multiplication fact.
- 2 ÷ 2 = 1
- 4 ÷ 2 = 2
- 6 ÷ 2 = 3
- 8 ÷ 2 = 4
- 10 ÷ 2 = 5
- 12 ÷ 2 = 6
- 14 ÷ 2 = 7
- 16 ÷ 2 = 8
- 18 ÷ 2 = 9
- 20 ÷ 2 = 10
- 22 ÷ 2 = 11
- 24 ÷ 2 = 12
Part B: Mixed up Divide.
- 0 ÷ 2 = 0
- 12 ÷ 2 = 6
- 10 ÷ 2 = 5
- 22 ÷ 2 = 11
- 2 ÷ 2 = 1
- 20 ÷ 2 = 10
- 24 ÷ 2 = 12
- 18 ÷ 2 = 9
- 14 ÷ 2 = 7
- 8 ÷ 2 = 4
- 16 ÷ 2 = 8
- 6 ÷ 2 = 3
Part C: Missing number Write the number that makes each fact true.
- 18 ÷ 2 = 9
- 6 ÷ 2 = 3
- 8 ÷ 2 = 4
- 24 ÷ 2 = 12
- 10 ÷ 2 = 5
- 14 ÷ 2 = 7
Tips for teachers and parents
- Say "divide by 2 means split into two equal groups." 14 ÷ 2 is 7, because two groups of 7 make 14.
- Link each fact to doubling. If double 8 is 16, then half of 16 is 8.
- Only even numbers divide by 2 with nothing left over. Every dividend on this sheet is even, which is a good pattern to point out.
- For Part C, turn ___ ÷ 2 = 9 back into multiplication: 9 × 2 = 18.
Common mistakes
- Doubling instead of halving, so 12 ÷ 2 becomes 24. Ask the student to read the sign aloud before writing.
- Halving the tens and ones separately and making an error, such as 18 ÷ 2 = 14. Check with doubling: 14 + 14 is 28, not 18.
What to practice next
Move on to dividing by 5 or 10, then by 4, which is halving twice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the trick for dividing by 2?
Find half of the number. 16 ÷ 2 is half of 16, which is 8.
Why does this worksheet start in order?
Part A follows the 2 times table backwards so students see that each division fact comes from a multiplication fact they know.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, on page 2 of the PDF.
