Part A: In order Divide. Think of the matching multiplication fact.
- 10 ÷ 10 = 1
- 20 ÷ 10 = 2
- 30 ÷ 10 = 3
- 40 ÷ 10 = 4
- 50 ÷ 10 = 5
- 60 ÷ 10 = 6
- 70 ÷ 10 = 7
- 80 ÷ 10 = 8
- 90 ÷ 10 = 9
- 100 ÷ 10 = 10
- 110 ÷ 10 = 11
- 120 ÷ 10 = 12
Part B: Mixed up Divide.
- 90 ÷ 10 = 9
- 20 ÷ 10 = 2
- 100 ÷ 10 = 10
- 10 ÷ 10 = 1
- 120 ÷ 10 = 12
- 40 ÷ 10 = 4
- 0 ÷ 10 = 0
- 110 ÷ 10 = 11
- 60 ÷ 10 = 6
- 30 ÷ 10 = 3
- 80 ÷ 10 = 8
- 70 ÷ 10 = 7
Part C: Missing number Write the number that makes each fact true.
- 90 ÷ 10 = 9
- 30 ÷ 10 = 3
- 70 ÷ 10 = 7
- 60 ÷ 10 = 6
- 20 ÷ 10 = 2
- 120 ÷ 10 = 12
Tips for teachers and parents
- Explain the pattern with place value. 70 ÷ 10 is 7 because 70 is 7 tens.
- Use dimes: 90 cents shared into dimes is 9 dimes, so 90 ÷ 10 = 9.
- Link to the 5s: if 60 ÷ 10 = 6, then 60 ÷ 5 is double that, 12.
- In Part C, ask "how many tens make this number?" to find ___ ÷ 10 = 8.
Common mistakes
- Removing the wrong digit, so 120 ÷ 10 becomes 10. Show 120 as 12 tens.
- Subtracting 10 instead of dividing, such as 50 ÷ 10 = 40. Read the problem as "how many tens are in 50?"

Frequently asked questions
What is the rule for dividing by 10?
For whole numbers ending in 0, take away the final zero: each digit moves one place to the right. 80 ÷ 10 is 8.
Is dividing by 10 the same as removing a zero?
It gives the same result for numbers ending in 0, but the reason is place value. Teaching the reason helps students later with decimals.
