Part A: In order Multiply. Look for the pattern as you go.
- 9 × 1 = 9
- 9 × 2 = 18
- 9 × 3 = 27
- 9 × 4 = 36
- 9 × 5 = 45
- 9 × 6 = 54
- 9 × 7 = 63
- 9 × 8 = 72
- 9 × 9 = 81
- 9 × 10 = 90
- 9 × 11 = 99
- 9 × 12 = 108
Part B: Mixed up Multiply. The facts are out of order and some are flipped.
- 10 × 9 = 90
- 12 × 9 = 108
- 6 × 9 = 54
- 7 × 9 = 63
- 9 × 3 = 27
- 11 × 9 = 99
- 9 × 6 = 54
- 9 × 8 = 72
- 9 × 10 = 90
- 9 × 9 = 81
- 9 × 0 = 0
- 0 × 9 = 0
Part C: Missing factor Write the number that makes each fact true.
- 9 × 6 = 54
- 9 × 5 = 45
- 9 × 12 = 108
- 9 × 10 = 90
- 9 × 2 = 18
- 9 × 9 = 81
Tips for teachers and parents
- Use 10 groups minus 1 group: 9 × 7 is 70 − 7 = 63.
- From 9 × 1 to 9 × 10, the digits of each answer add up to 9. For 9 × 6 = 54, 5 + 4 = 9.
- The tens digit is one less than the number being multiplied. In 9 × 8 the tens digit is 7, and 7 + 2 = 9, so the answer is 72.
- Teach the finger trick for 9 × 1 to 9 × 10: hold up ten fingers, fold down the finger for the number, then read the fingers on the left as tens and on the right as ones.
Common mistakes
- Subtracting the wrong amount in the 10-minus-1 strategy, such as 9 × 7 = 70 − 9. The group to take away is 7.
- Using the digit patterns past 9 × 10. They stop working at 9 × 11, so use 10 groups minus 1 group for 9 × 11 and 9 × 12.

Frequently asked questions
What is the finger trick for the 9 times table?
Hold up ten fingers and fold down the finger that matches the number you multiply by. Fingers to the left are tens and fingers to the right are ones. For 9 × 4, fold the fourth finger: 3 on the left and 6 on the right make 36.
Why do the digits of 9s answers add up to 9?
Each step adds 10 and takes away 1, so the tens digit goes up by one while the ones digit goes down by one. The total stays 9 up to 9 × 10.
Does this worksheet go up to 9 × 12?
Yes. Part A covers 9 × 1 to 9 × 12, and the mixed section uses facts from 0 to 12.
