Part A: In order Multiply. Look for the pattern as you go.

  1. 12 × 1 = 12
  2. 12 × 2 = 24
  3. 12 × 3 = 36
  4. 12 × 4 = 48
  5. 12 × 5 = 60
  6. 12 × 6 = 72
  7. 12 × 7 = 84
  8. 12 × 8 = 96
  9. 12 × 9 = 108
  10. 12 × 10 = 120
  11. 12 × 11 = 132
  12. 12 × 12 = 144

Part B: Mixed up Multiply. The facts are out of order and some are flipped.

  1. 6 × 12 = 72
  2. 12 × 10 = 120
  3. 12 × 0 = 0
  4. 5 × 12 = 60
  5. 11 × 12 = 132
  6. 1 × 12 = 12
  7. 12 × 5 = 60
  8. 12 × 8 = 96
  9. 3 × 12 = 36
  10. 12 × 9 = 108
  11. 4 × 12 = 48
  12. 12 × 11 = 132

Part C: Missing factor Write the number that makes each fact true.

  1. 12 × 12 = 144
  2. 12 × 2 = 24
  3. 12 × 3 = 36
  4. 12 × 10 = 120
  5. 12 × 11 = 132
  6. 12 × 5 = 60

Tips for teachers and parents

  • Split 12 into 10 and 2. For 12 × 7, 10 × 7 = 70 and 2 × 7 = 14, so the answer is 84.
  • Connect to real dozens: 12 months in a year, 12 inches in a foot, 12 eggs in a carton. 12 × 3 is three dozen, which is 36.
  • Every 12s answer is a 6s answer doubled. If 6 × 9 = 54, then 12 × 9 = 108.
  • Give extra time to 12 × 7, 12 × 8 and 12 × 9, where the split method needs a careful addition.

Common mistakes

  • Adding the parts wrong, such as 12 × 8 = 80 + 8. The second part is 2 × 8 = 16, so the answer is 96.
  • Treating 12 × 12 like a pattern fact. Use the split: 120 + 24 = 144.

Frequently asked questions

What is the trick for the 12 times table?

Multiply by 10, multiply by 2, then add the two answers. 12 × 6 is 60 + 12 = 72.

When should students learn the 12 times table?

In England it is expected by the end of Year 4. In the US it varies by school; many add the 11s and 12s after the grade 3 facts are secure.

Is there an A4 version?

Yes. Every worksheet downloads in both US Letter and A4.
